Glycerine and Polyglycerols for the Industrial Sector

Modern industry is constantly seeking raw materials that combine high performance, sustainability, and production reliability. In this context, technical glycerine and polyglycerols are extremely versatile chemicals used in a wide variety of industrial processes thanks to their chemical and physical properties and their ability to serve as synthetic intermediates, functional agents, or components of complex formulations.

Spiga Nord develops and manufactures a complete range of technical glycerines, technical polyglycerols, and innovative circular economy solutions, providing the industry with raw materials that meet the needs of numerous manufacturing sectors.

Our solutions are used in the production of resins, polyurethanes, lubricants, technical fluids, speciality chemicals, composite materials, construction products, surface treatment, the textile industry, leather processing, detergent formulations, drilling muds, chemical synthesis, and numerous other industrial processes where reliability, quality, and continuity of supply are critical factors.

Whether it’s developing a new polymer, improving the performance of a resin, optimising a lubricant, or replacing a petrochemical-based raw material with a renewable alternative, Spiga Nord works closely with its customers to help them choose the solution best suited to their specific application needs, offering chemical expertise, manufacturing experience, and an innovation-driven approach.

Industry Challenges

The chemical industry is undergoing an unprecedented transformation. The growing focus on sustainability, reducing CO₂ emissions, replacing fossil-based raw materials, and adopting circular economy models are profoundly changing how products and processes are designed.

At the same time, manufacturers must continue to ensure high technical performance, process stability, supply continuity, and economic competitiveness. Each industrial application has different requirements for viscosity, colour, purity, water content, chemical properties, and behaviour during the production process.

For this reason, there is no such thing as a universal raw material; instead, it is necessary to choose the most suitable product based on the end use.

Spiga Nord meets these needs through a diverse range of products, including technical glycerines, polyglycerols, and new formulations developed by optimising its production processes, offering customers a partner capable of developing practical solutions for increasingly advanced industrial applications.

Our Industrial Solutions

Technical Glycerins

Spiga Nord’s technical glycerine offers a reliable solution for a wide range of industrial applications where versatility and consistent supply are required.

The lineup includes:

  • GLYCEROL Technical min. 99.5 percent
  • GLYCEROL Technical min. 86.5 percent
  • Glycerol Technical Yellow

These products are used as raw materials, chemical intermediates, or functional components in numerous industrial processes, helping to improve performance, workability, and production efficiency.

Technical Polyglycerols

Polyglycerols represent an evolution of glycerine and constitute an extremely versatile chemical platform for developing new industrial formulations.

Thanks to their molecular structure, they are used in the synthesis of resins, polymer systems, speciality lubricants, functional additives, drilling muds, advanced materials, and numerous other industrial processes.

The lineup includes:

  • Technical Polyglycerine
  • Refined Technical Polyglycerine

Technical polyglycerols are available in crude (Technical Polyglycerine) and refined (Refined Technical Polyglycerine) forms.

Water Treatment Products

Innovation also depends on increasingly efficient resource management.

For this reason, Spiga Nord has developed the SPIGAPUR line, a family of products created by repurposing specific streams from our production process and transforming them into bacterial feed solutions.

Glycerol-based products are widely used as external carbon sources. Their main function is to “feed” the denitrifying bacteria in anoxic tanks, enabling the conversion of nitrates into gaseous nitrogen.

The lineup includes:

  • SPIGAPUR1000 (COD value 1,000,000 mg/L ())
  • SPIGAPUR1200 (COD value: 1,200,000 mg/L ())

These products help maximise the use of available resources, reduce waste, and offer the market high-performance solutions that are fully in line with the principles of the circular economy.

FAQ

Technical glycerine is intended for industrial applications where it is not required to be used as a food, cosmetic, or pharmaceutical ingredient. It retains the main chemical properties of glycerine, but the specification limits are less restrictive (e.g., maximum color of 20 Hazen vs. a maximum of 10 for EP glycerin).
Our technical glycerine and polyglycerols are used in numerous industries, including the chemical industry, resins, polyurethanes, lubricants, construction, textiles, leather processing, industrial detergents, surface treatment, composite materials, drilling, and the development of bio-based formulations.
No. According to the European CLP Regulation (Regulation 1272/2008), the product is not classified as a hazardous substance and does not contain any intentionally added SVHCs, PBTs, or vPvBs.
Yes. Refined Technical Polyglycerine is classified as readily biodegradable according to the OECD 301B method, a characteristic that makes it particularly attractive for applications focused on environmental sustainability.
SPIGAPUR1000 and SPIGAPUR1200 are products developed by Spiga Nord as part of its circular economy strategy. They are derived from the recovery of specific streams from the production process and represent new technical raw materials designed to feed the bacterial population in wastewater.
