is best for your needs.

01. Why choose Spiga Nord Refined Glycerol?

Because Spiga Nord is the direct manufacturer of pharmaceutical-grade glycerol: the overall quality of its supplies is therefore guaranteed and consistently maintained over time, since every aspect related to manufacturing, quality control, packaging, and warehousing falls entirely under its own control.

Spiga Nord’s refined glycerin is used in a wide range of products: from cosmetic, food, and pharmaceutical formulations to the tobacco industry, toothpastes, polyurethanes, paint resins, and explosives.

Certainly.

Thanks to its fifty years of experience in producing refined glycerin, Spiga Nord is able to manufacture a pharmaceutical-grade refined glycerol characterized by high chemical and microbiological purity, and the absence of substances harmful to humans such as diethylene glycol and related compounds, residual solvents, mycotoxins, pesticides, and heavy metals.

The product “Glycerol Eur. Ph. min. 99.5% vegetable origin – Excipient” complies with monograph 0496 of the European Pharmacopoeia and is also produced and distributed in accordance with the applicable GMP guidelines for pharmaceutical excipients.

Furthermore, the systems used for managing company operations (ERP) and analytical data (LIMS) have been validated in accordance with the applicable GAMP requirements.

Certainly.

The product “Glycerol Eur. Ph. min. 99.5% vegetable origin” can be used as an ingredient in cosmetic formulations and also complies with the requirements set by COSMOS and ECOCERT FRANCE for cosmetic raw materials.

The product “Glycerol E422 Food Additive” can be used in the preparation of food products, as it complies with the requirements set by European Regulation 2023/1329 for the food additive E422 GLYCEROL.

Certainly.

Spiga Nord’s refined glycerin is obtained exclusively from GMO-free vegetable crude glycerine (with no BSE/TSE risk) purchased from qualified suppliers. It also complies with the requirements set by COSMOS and ECOCERT FRANCE for cosmetic raw materials of natural origin.

Certainly.

Spiga Nord can handle individual supplies and deliveries of finished product throughout Italy and worldwide, in quantities ranging from 25 kg to 28 tons, depending on the Customer’s needs.

The packaging used (jerrycans, metal drums, IBCs, tank trucks for bulk product) is qualified and suitable to meet the requirements of the pharmaceutical and food sectors.

FAQ

Discover which polyglycerol based product best fits your needs

01. Can Spiga Nord’s Polyglycerol be used in cosmetic products?

Certainly.

Thanks to their vegetable origin, they can be used in 100% natural final formulations. This characteristic is particularly valuable for cosmetic applications, where the use of ethoxylated derivatives is increasingly questioned for dermatological and environmental reasons: polyglycerol esters make it possible to create emulsions free from ethoxylated compounds.

They also comply with the requirements set by COSMOS and ECOCERT FRANCE for cosmetic raw materials.

During research and development, it is essential to ensure the stability and functionality of the product throughout its entire shelf life; in particular, cosmetic products must maintain their consistency, fragrance, softness, and rapid absorption during use. Polyglycerol esters, together with other components, allow both objectives to be achieved.

They can be used as non-ionic emulsifiers, dispersing agents, emollients, humectants, or thickening agents in personal care formulations.

Certainly.

Spiga Nord’s Polyglycerols can be used for the production of esters that comply with the specifications outlined in European Regulation 2023/1329 for the food additives E475 POLYGLYCEROL ESTERS OF FATTY ACIDS and E476 POLYGLYCEROL POLYRICINOLEATE, as well as with the specifications required by 21 CFR 172.854 for the food additive POLYGLYCEROL ESTERS OF FATTY ACIDS.

Polyglycerol esters serve several functions within food products: emulsifiers, fat replacers, and processing aids that help maintain the rheological properties of the food.

E475 is formed by the reaction of polyglycerol with fats, oils, or fatty acids. The resulting product may contain mono-, di-, and triglycerides, along with free glycerol and fatty acids.

Fatty acid esters are widely used in foods as structuring agents, complexing agents, humectants, anti-foaming agents, and anti-splatter agents.

Polyglycerol polyricinoleate is primarily used as a viscosity-modifying agent.

It is also useful for stabilizing emulsions in oil–water systems with very high water content.

For example, the additive E476 is highly effective in maintaining the integrity of chocolate in food coatings.

Certainly.

Polyglycerol, and more commonly its esters, is used in the production of polymers: as a plasticizer, to provide new and specific rheological properties to the product, added directly during mass or suspension polymerization or in the final stages of production; as an anti-fog agent capable of migrating toward the surface of the polymer but not outside the product itself; and as a lubricant, thanks to its high viscosity even at elevated temperatures.

Certainly.

Spiga Nord’s polyglycerols are non-toxic substances that are not harmful to the environment and, as such, are suitable for use as drilling fluids, hydraulic fluids, and lubricants for technical fluids, fully in compliance with current environmental safety regulations.

Certainly.

Polyglycerol esters can be used in detergent formulations because they are excellent emulsifiers (non-ionic surfactants). In fact, detergents function by capturing greasy matter—generally characterized by lipophilic affinity—within an aqueous medium.

Polyglycerol esters with a high HLB value can significantly improve the performance of oil-in-water emulsions with a high water content, and they can act as surfactants by stabilizing the emulsion.

Spiga Nord’s Polyglycerols enable the production of natural esters, as they are manufactured exclusively through the polycondensation of refined vegetable glycerine that are Kosher and Halal, GMO-free (with no BSE/TSE risk), and sourced from qualified suppliers.

Certainly.

A key feature of these products is the ability to create emulsifiers with a specific HLB (Hydrophilic–Lipophilic Balance) by selecting the appropriate polyglycerol and fatty acid, as well as their proportion and the operating conditions applied.

Certainly.

Thanks to the lower presence of hydroxyl groups within the molecule and the higher molecular weight compared to glycerol, polyglycerols, and consequently polyglycerol esters, are well tolerated by the skin.

Certainly.

Spiga Nord can handle individual supplies and deliveries of finished product throughout Italy and worldwide, in quantities ranging from 25 kg to 28 tons, depending on the Customer’s needs.
