Innovation and Versatility in Polyglycerine

Spiga Nord S.p.A. has extensive experience refining vegetable glycerin and producing polyglycerols obtained through a polycondensation process of refined vegetable glycerine, GMO-free, Kosher, and Halal.

Thanks to fifty years of expertise, Spiga Nord produces polyglycerols with unique quality characteristics in the market, making them ideal for both food and cosmetic applications.

What are Polyglycerols?

Polyglycerols are intermolecular ethers that form by condensing two or more glycerol molecules, which occurs by eliminating water molecules.

The result is a product with a unique molecular structure consisting of linear polymers with a reduced content of cyclic compounds.

This gives polyglycerols remarkable thermal stability and unrivalled quality in colour and odour.

For example, Spiga Nord’s Polyglycerol-3 and Polyglycerol-4 have a typical value of < 50 Hazen, three times lower than market standards.

Polyglycerine in Food Industry

Spiga Nord produces polyglycerols that comply with European and U.S. food additive regulations, including European Regulation 2023/1329 and 21 CFR 172.854.

Polyglycerol esters (PGE) are used as emulsifiers and fat substitutes, maintaining the rheological properties of food products.

Their vegetable origin allows companies to include them in 100% natural formulations, meeting the demand for healthier and more sustainable food products.

Natural Cosmetics

Polyglycerols are key ingredients in formulating innovative, high-quality cosmetics. They are essential for creating emulsions without ethoxylated compounds, which raise dermatological and environmental concerns.

Thanks to their skin tolerability, polyglycerols act as excellent emollients and moisturizers, ideal for hydrating and protective creams and lotions.

Their higher molecular weight and fewer hydroxyl groups than glycerol make them suitable for gentle formulations and well tolerated by the skin.

Versatility and Innovation in Polyglycerine

One of the most exciting features of Spiga Nord’s polyglycerols is their chemical versatility.

The hydroxyl groups present in their structure can be esterified with various acids to create a wide range of emulsifiers and surfactants with specific HLB (Hydrophilic-Lipophilic Balance) values.

This makes them particularly useful in the food and cosmetic fields and in numerous technical applications.

Thanks to its experience and innovation, Spiga Nord S.p.A. has developed high-quality polyglycerols with applications ranging from food to cosmetics and even technical sectors.

Their vegetable origin and eco-friendly production process make them ideal for companies seeking sustainable and high-performing solutions.
