SPIGA was established in 1957, in Genoa (Italy), a city with an ancient tradition for manufacturing materials based on natural oils and fats and their by-products, specializing in the production of natural glycerine refined by thin layer distillation and ion exchange.
In 1974 SPIGA moved to a new and modern plant in Carasco, 35 km from Genoa(Italy). Through experience ripened by 50 years of activity, SPIGA’s product is marketed in many
European and Overseas countries and is notable for its very high quality standards.
Indeed, continual attention has been devoted to the technological development of the plants, to the evolution of laboratory equipments required for increasingly precise quality control, and to the study of all aspects connected to the improvement of the product, with
respect to consumer requirements. In 1995 Spiga has founded a joint venture company, NEOCHIM SA, located in Feluy, about 35 km south of Brussels in Belgium, and controlled by SPIGA NORD since 2001 with the specific purpose of refining crude glycerine from biodiesel production and from other natural sources to produce the highest quality Kosher grade refined glycerine.
NEOCHIM is supported by SPIGA’s expertise in the processing of crude glycerine, and also their experience of marketing the refined product in Europe and the rest of the world.
By the end of March 2007, NEOCHIM SA started the production of Biodiesel on the same site of the glycerine plant . The actual capacity is around 260.000 tons of Biodiesel per year.
